Avril Lavigne has launched a five-week campaign to raise money for children and young adults who suffer from Lyme disease.

The When You're Gone hit maker did so through her foundation, which she created after she was diagnosed with having Lyme Disease in 2014.

Also on Sunday the singer celebrated turning 31-years-old.

The Canadian pop star is working with Prizeo, a digital fundraising platform, to raise money for the Avril Lavigne Foundation. One lucky fan who donates to her foundation could win a speaking role in her new film Charming.

In a statement, the Sk8er Boi singer said she's excited 'that this year's campaign is supporting people with Lyme disease and helping others to better understand this issue.'

The Complicated singer went public with her Lyme disease diagnosis in April, after keeping quiet about it for five months. She was diagnosed with a severe case of Lyme disease, and at one point, thought she was dying. She revealed that during recovery, there were times when she couldn't breathe, talk or move.

This year has been full of ups and downs for Avril, who split in early September from her husband, 40-year-old singer Chad Kroeger. The couple were married for only two years before their separation.

She announced the news on her Instagram account, revealing that although their marriage was over, the two still cared for each other.

The Nickelback singer was a supportive husband during her recovery, flying back and forth from his tour to be by her side.
